Schoolchildren to pledge allegiance to the Queen?

Schoolchildren could be expected to pledge allegiance to the Queen and respect for the law, under new recommendations aimed at strengthening Britons’ sense of citizenship. Lord Goldsmith’s recommendations also include a new public holiday to celebrate "Britishness" along the lines of Australia Day. What do you think?

    would the children not be better learning phonics in those five mins a day- 25 mins a week- approx 3 hours a term rather than doing something they do not understand and will not impact on their future lives.
