"I was smacked as a kid, never did me any harm". But is this really true? Hitting an adult is seen as violence or abuse, but is this different with children? Should we smack our kids? Were you smacked as a child? Do you smack your own children? Should it be made illegal?

I wonder where the line will be drawn in regard to smacking! remember the first person to smack every child, when it doesnt respond...is the Mid-wife, that little slap on the bottom helps bring the mite to life, and in doing so, gets its attention, therefore that is imprinted on the childs Phycie from that early age, if done correctly, one little slap made be needed to stop a child misbehaving, after that, usually the possibility of another usually does the trick without actually having to admninister it. A bit of common sense is required with this issue, not the nonsense spouted by the PC brigade.
Yes I think it is totally acceptable! I was smacked as a child and it didn't do me any harm. It taught me to respect my parents and know right from wrong.
I have smacked my child in the past on the hand or on the leg and now she is as good as gold. I think I may have put the fear of God into her, bless her, but it certainly stopped her from being a spoilt brat.
She is allowed to get away with murder by her fathers parents and I have witnessed my daughter speaking to them as if they are something she's just trodden in. Although I tell her off if I witness it myself, I blame them for letting her get away with it! As with most parents with mis-behaved children.
I don't need to smack her anymore, I just have to tell her not to do something and she knows I mean it.
I agree with bbb from wilts, children nowadays get away with verbal and violent abuse to their parents. A smack on the bottom works wonders. I get verbal abuse from my eight year old, and a telling off will not work. a smack on the bum does. but nor to hardYou cannot let a child tell you the parent what to do. But I think that some parents do go a little to far. also if you shout at a child they thing its a natural thing to do
Didnt do me any harm.Thats whats wrong in this world today. They litteraly get away with murder.
Discipline is the glue that holds society together, lack of it,and you have the fiasco we have now where kids go from being feral kids,to feral adults. No use to themselves,or to anyone else.If a timely smack by a parent here and here reinforces a regime of loving discipline in a home then it,s perfectly acceptable.I am talking about the slap, smack, the raised voice, not punching or kicking, denial of food or brutality of any kind.I had many a clout in my childhood and it did me no harm at all,and no responsible parent should be vilified for smacking a child.part of the problems faced today by society are due to the fact there is no understanding of consequence of action, the fact that with right comes responsibility, and much of this comes from the home environment in formitive years. All since eroded by woolly minded, liberal an largely left wing thinking.
