Britons in social housing who aren’t working or actively seeking employment should be kicked out, according to new housing minister Caroline Flint. Do you agree?

A council house is much like a private house. But you cant blame people for not having jobs in the current economic climate. Im a graduate and cannot find a job in a shop or as a cleaner nevermind in my field. Im home with my mother at the moment and i get £96 a fortnight, how is that supposed to help support myself find a job and my mother to keep me? If i get a council house I would get much more help, its not about forcing them to work, its about finding jobs for them! Most of the people who think they should be forced will have full-time jobs and worry about 'their taxes paying for this and that'. I would love to have that problem of worrying about my tax because right now Im living on barely nothing. I hope those who criticise non-working people dont lose their jobs in the next few years because they will have a rude awakening to what its really like out here out of work.
What they should do is stop giving council houses to young girls who get themselves pregnant to get a place and live off benifits, lots of them claim single parent money, work on the side and have the jobless boyfriend living there who also gets cash in hand for working, it seems to be the culture of the uk now
To all those answering yes to this question I hope you never lose your job or career becaues of Disability through an accident and have no means to pay your way in life, then you will have to spend your days on the streets becaue you can't get a council house because your not working.
you should be able to pay the rent for the house and have a validated NI so it keeps the immigrants with fake id of the list, the amount of repossessions at the current time means those with disposable income should be made to rent privately
Albert-Point taken. But the fact of the matter will be the same for you and it won't be your fault!
I know people with a private or company pension and those without a private pension at all , with just a state pension. The sad thing is that state pensioners seem to get more money and benefits.
Your pension from a local government will be index linked I should think?
Me too I paid a lot of tax also and I was'nt stating the fact that I was scrounging off the state, but highlighting the fact that my unexpected illness of MS has left my family and myself relying on the state more than we want to.
The only other help I get is from the British Legion (God bless em).

Should council tenants be forced to get a job?
