Rag rolling, stencilling and sponge finish paint effects, made popular on shows such as Changing Rooms in the nineties, topped the list of modern bad design. Time to get the paintbrush out again…
Paint / make / build whatever you want as long as it suits your style , eventually if you need to sell , THEN look into making it the current 'trend' , before that , why bother if you like it yourself.
I'm guessing that the people who are telling us of these style "offenders" and "blunders" are the same style "Gurus" who told us that these things were fantastic 10 years ago and in 20 years time will talk of them again as fantastic retro style. The only offenders here are the style/fashion police - they offend my sensibilites and common sense YOU decorate YOUR house any damn way YOU please. Stuff the style cops, don't be a sheep - create your own style.
Get a life folks! what does it matter as long as the householder is happy.
Of course trends change, things come and go out of fashion, or so we are told.If they didn't interior designers would be out of work, diy stores would have their profits cut and we would all still be living in clones of our grandparents houses. But if something is working ok, if it makes you happy and it doesn't harm anyone else, why should we change it just for the sake of it?
remember the story of "The King's New Clothes". i'm sick and tired of assorted gurus imposing their personal ideas of what is fashionable on us all. If we all followed their preferances we might as well be clones of them. Food, drink, clothes, decorating, there is always an idiot who thinks we should all share their "perfect" taste.
