I know it sounds lazy, but if I know that a guest is about to arrive I spray polish on my radiators and wipe the down, as the heating comes on it smells like I have just polished. I put lavender oil on my bedroom radiator to give it that nice peaceful smell for the evening

I don't know why this works, but it does! I learned it from fellow youth-hostellers in the 1950's. A fistful of potato peelings rubbed vigorously round a saucepan quickly loosens and cleans off difficult stuck-on food remains.

An old method of cleaning and polishing furniture, mix equal parts of olive oil, (vegetable oil is a cheaper altrnative) with lemon juice, apply to a duster and polish the antiques, works a treat. Flat cola poured down the loo at night will clear limescale, a dash of white vinegar in the morning will whiten the bowl. The same vinegar applied to bites and stings will reduce swelling, inflammation and itching. Thanks Great Aunt Kate!!
