I am not too bad at DIY but I warn people to be careful when they use nail guns. I was only using 15mm nails to make a small box to cover my phone sockets in the kitchen. I was holding the two pieces of wood in my hand instead of on the bench. The nailgun jumped and put the 15mm nail straight through my finger tip. Not wanting to look a burke at the hospital I then had to pull it out with a pair of pliers. Double the pain. Do be careful people.

Money was a bit tight 18 years ago when we got married, so when we moved into our terraced house, the ceilings and walls needed a fresh coat of emulsion which I found in my mums house, the paint was really thick, so I decided to stir it up a bit with a bit of stout wire secured into a chuck of an electric drill, I turned the drill on and plunged the wire into the paint tin, I left it going for some time and when I pulled the wire out, the paint looked just like it was bought new from a shop that day. I climbed the ladder to start painting with my new and proud wife looking up at me from beneath when I heard a funny sound, just like a metal zip being undone. The next thing that happened was that the bottom of the paint tin fell out due to it being perforated by the stout wire. My wife screamed as a couple of gallons of white emulsion poured over her, the walls and the floor. Needless to say that was our first row as well. They say it takes a long time to learn to be good at DIY, after 18 years of marriage I`m still learning-Now I let my better half do it.

I painted our old bath with Hammerite radiator paint cos i figured it would withstand heat. The bath looked like new until i ran the water and the paint started to peel. In fact 6yrs later its still peeling and we can`t afford a new bath!
