There have been 20 child protection cases in the past year that have involved obesity. Some doctors are now calling for it to be named as a form of neglect or abuse; that parents are "killing their children with kindness". Others say it's down to lack of education of the parents and that they should be helped not targeted.
What do you think? Is child obesity abuse? Should we do more to help parents or will this merely cause further accusations of a nanny state? Have your say.

hi all i don't think it is i have an xbox 360!
I agree that parents are unaware of how to fix the issue, but giving them what they want or helping them feel like they 'fit in' essentially "kills" their self esteem and causes more health problems that could result in early death.
Chikdhood obesity is abuse of children from the society, even worse than sexual abuse. Partents are not the only to be blamed.
Apart from over-eating and lack of exercise, much the trouble is that most foods children and whole families eat is of very bad quality, and not only holds for so-called junk-food. Most ready-made food types are made as cheep as possible and consist mostly of cheep bad fat, cheep carbohydrates and cheep salty water.
Most families do not understand and are not told, even not by health professionals that they are systematically lured regarding the content in the food they buy.

A parent is responsible for every aspect of their childs lives, including what they eat and how much excercise they do. So if a child is overwirght it is totally the parents fault, and it is because they either don't care or cannot be bothered to do anything about it. IT IS CHILD ABUSE and should be punishable. It makes life miserable for the child with the bullying at school, not to mention the effects on their bodies and the damage in later life. It is a disgrace that a parent would let their child become fat, and if it were classed as abuse and a parent could be punished we would see the childhood obesity rate fall dramaically.
