Do you agree with the schooling of children at home? In what ways can it benefit children? Are there any disadvantages? Have your say...

To Anne from Yorkshire. In my expereince gained through homeschooling my son for a year it is improtant to 'teach' them what theyd like to learn. A school type curriculum isn't necessary in a homeschool environment. By following their lead in where their interest lies you have their attention and willingness to learn.
My children do attend schools but to be honest I hate the military style attitude of schools these days... punishing kids because they don't have the right pencil!! how stupid.
I would like to have tried home schooling but my concern is that the children would mess me about and not sit down and get on with what I need them to do. Mine are now 11 and 13 and maybe too opinionated and learning to be defiant..... maybe I should have thought about doing it earlier on.
Have other parents who have taught their children at home had difficulties with defiance?
Home schooling worked for my children. the most common accusation was'they#ll miss out on the social side of school' - yeah! When they finally went to secondary school they were introduced to the joys of bullying, peer pressure, lying and under-achieving.
All I can say to Kay from Surrey is that you aren't as experienced as you may think. My children attend school and I wish to God that I had had the confidence to home school them, 'cos they are so much better off when I get involved and teach them myself. There is a marked difference in their school performance when I leave the school to it!
i taught all my 5 at home and they are all doing well two have their own business and three have degrees.....and all contribute to our tax system
