Child body piercing - how young is too young?

Child body piercing - how young is too young?

It's becoming more and more common for children to have body piercings - from ears to bellybuttons.

Have you let your child have any part of their body pierced? How young is too young for children to have "body art"?

I think it is so wrong to pierce a babies ears. I have 2 daughters and the eldest, at 5, asked if she could have her ears pierced. I explained that it would hurt and she had to let me keep them clean etc. She was still adament that she wanted them done so we went to the piercing shop and then she changed her mind so we walked straight back out. She will have them pierced if/when SHE decides.
I saw a baby, not too long ago having her ears pierced in Claire's Accessories and when she cried her parents found it funny!!!! What is so funny about your child going through pain? When i questioned a member of staff she told me that they pierce babies ears from 3mths, provided they have a birth cetificate with them!!!
I think that when a child is old enough to say for themselves that they would like it done, without being asked, then they should be able to.

To be honest I don't feel that Babies should be having their ears pierced. But that is my own personal opinion. Each of my girls were 6 when they had their ears peirced for the first time & their second holes when they turned 13. My oldest had her carltiladge, belly button, & a tattoo when she turned 18. Our rule in our house is no other body piercings or tattoos till they are 18. Now my stepdaughter had her ears pierced when she was a baby. Mom did not take care of them & had them pierced again & then again(not a second hole same hole) Now mom wants her to get her cartiladge pierced & she is only 12. This is a mom that can't take care of the first piercings & the child has a low pain tolerance. To be honest my husband & I feel that piercings should not be allowed for babies & that & that piercings other than the lobes should be banned until the child becomes an adult & can make a serious decision about their body. These peircings are very serious if their are complications & very dangerous. Parents allowing their children to get these peircings are putting their children at risk as well as possibly opening themselves up for abuse charges & neglect.

i had my ears pierced very young and its not illegal to pierce a child of about 2's ears at all, more and more people are having there young childrens ears pierced and its not at all a problem, if it was illegal then surely places would stop doing it!
people think piercings add some bling to your body, its all up to the parents or the child.
