Do you breastfeed?

Do you breastfeed?

According to research, less than one in a hundred mothers take the advice to breastfeed their child exclusively for the first six months. Do you breastfeed your child? How long did you feed your baby with breast milk before opting for the bottle? What are your reasons for your choices?

I didn't breastfeed either of my two children (2 & 4) as I felt that it was my choice to do what I felt comfortable doing. I did however feel extremely pressurised to breastfeed against my wishes. A new mother has enough to contend with without being made to feel guilty for making her own decisions.

I was unable to breastfeed my first child but am happily breastfeeding my second child and what a difference! If I knew it was going to be this easy and convenient I would have persevered with my first child. I think that having a supportive Midwife and Health Vistor made a huge difference for me - as well as a supportive husband!! I would never look down on mothers who chose to bottlefeed - but I would recommend that you at least try breastfeeding first before you write it off. Never be ashamed to ask for help or support when you need it - breastfeeding can initially be a challenge but well worth it if you succeed!

My little boy is coming up 6 months and I am still breast feeding him, and will feed him for as long as he chooses to. It is a wonderful feeling looking at him and seeing him so healthy, happy and a growing baby is down to me feeding him. I personally don't think the disadvantages of formula feeding fully advertised, and if they were then mothers would be able to make a fully informed choice about how they choose to feed and nourish their baby. I'm sure if more mothers knew the health problems that can be caused by formula milk they would think twice about using it. I have fed my baby in public and have never had any negative comments. I'm a bit like Lesley...daring someone to make a comment to me!!! If I'm lucky enough to have another baby, they will definately be breast fed.
