While gaming may have been accepted as a sport, with various tournaments held worldwide every year, can the wide variety of original styles and designs be considered as art?

Of Course games are art. Art is any form of creativity and expression. whether this be through its visual style, Plot, set design or musical composition. No one could deny that books like lord of the rings or films, or music like beethoven isnt art. Games (usualy) include all these art forms in their own unique way. Plot isnt just about visual style. The story, music and graphics come together to make games like metal gear, the final fantasy series legacy of kain and a multidute of others such a joy to play. And certainly better to look at than a urinal at the tate modern! And its not as easy to make either. And games can be more involving than films after all watching a survival horror must be less scary than living it.
No question about it games are undoubtably art.
Art is an integral part of games. No one wants to play a game that looks like the characters and backrounds were drawn by a 5 year-old. Some games are masterpieces while others are finger paintings.
Krap
Of course games are art.
This feature, however, is not at all well done. It focuses on the graphics (the easiest thing for those with little consideration to call art), while forgetting the interactivity and control that seperates games from other art forms. Yes, Final Fantasy XII is gorgeous graphically, as is Okami, but they are also brilliantly constructed systems and glorious to play and experience.
An important example is Super Smash Bros. It has never been graphically or conceptually exciting, but the control and depth of play makes it an incredibly popular and acclaimed success.
Games are art as GAMES, not as pretty moving pictures.
