While gaming may have been accepted as a sport, with various tournaments held worldwide every year, can the wide variety of original styles and designs be considered as art?
To help you decide, read The Art of Video Games and take a look at the Gaming Art Gallery.
Then tell us what you think below!
All games are art, however bland or detailed creativtiy is within all aspects of society Art is not specific its general, computer games is specfic but how they created is someting else. ROCK on COMP ART
SNK and ****, Yoji shinkawa I salute you
I think that many games are art, but some are not. for example, if anyone has ever played any of "the settlers" games you will know that there is certainly a lot of art in the way that the buildings and people are so detailed and give a rustic, impressionistic feel, wheras games like "myst"give a spectacular, almost surreal view. games such as "minesweeper, however are so bland that there is no possibility of art within the game. I think the real art in games is that it is interactive, and the game has enough intelligence to instantly show what an object would look like from a different perspective, which gives a sense of freedom to view tailor-made art instantly.
ANYBODY WHO THINKS GAMES CANT BE ART HAS A BLAND, CLOSED MIND THAT IS INCAPABLE OF APPRECIATING ART, NOR ACKNOWLEDGING WHAT ART IS WHEN THEY SEE IT
Ikaruga was another simple yet visually stunning game. Gears of War shows, more than any game to date, how truly artistic the world of games can be.
Darwinia (included on the list) is another favourite.
All game's are art as most thing's are anyway's I think how machine's work are a piece as they work togeither in sync so yeah game graphic's are art look at the cut scence's on FF7+ can you really say that's not art?
In my opinion it's a form of art. Even when today they create the majority of the graphics with computers - they still have to start from scratch.
Akin to comic book artists.
*Respect!
You still need to draw the sketches of the characters, the scenes etc.
And the graphics are becoming more and more realistic looking these days. * I ask anyone who says it's easy - Can you do it, or do any better? :)
