Well I 'll admit I was a hard console fan all the way from the Mega Drive to The Xbox, but now havin just bought a 360 after 2 years of switchen to the PC, I have to say that , with the exception of driving games, of which 360 has more and better lookin, not all simulations like the PC I prefer the PC every time. Yes they're alot more expensive and I should know, I had a high end rig for awhile and found it hellish to keep up with the pace of change but, you just cant beat the amount of flexibility and mods, range of paripherals, etc that you get with a PC. Also, remember consoles are sold at a loss and the Manufacturers get thier dosh back by sellin all the accessories at fairly ridiculous prices, also, games are 40-50 quid sure, and your very limited by what publishers and Microsoft, Sony will alow you to do to the hardware and software. In fact, listening to one of Custom PC's podcasts, one of the presenters added up how much you'd need for a pretty reasonable gaming PC(you know, CPU Video card, Motherboard and so on),a decnt few games accessories like mice ,keyboards and headsets and then added up the price of a 360 and all the various accessories and a handful of games, and he found that on average a PC is roughly only about £120 more a year to maintain than a console. Check that I've got this right first though, but I think this is correct, but Judgeing by this estimation, that isn't that bad when you consider what your getting. The only problem I have with PC games is the high price of video cards required to play the same game lookin as good as the much cheaper console version. How cant cheaper cards do it, lets face it, console GPU's tend not to be anywhere near as advanced as top end PC cards at any particular time? I'll tell you why, cause developers seem to code games for the PC to be too demanding on even the most powerful cards even at the same resolution and quality settings, so's that this drives the number of folks upgradeing even higher and keeps Nvidia and the like happy, when the same game is perfectly playable on a console that seems to have a far less powerful chip. I sense a flyness that some Devs are actually prodded by component manufacturers to make games this way so's to get more money outa you, what'd you fellas think? Consoles are more consistenet as the devs can make the game look it's best as the hardware stays the same, I know that PC devs cant code for the latest kit cause not many can afford it but, surely they can do much better at what's called scaling, if a certain game runs on console gear at crtain settings, then the minimum spec should be the equivilent PC specs as the console, this will ensure mplayable performance at those settings, and any extra power offered by your hardware alows you to play at higher res etc.

gotta agree with captin black consoles are lightwieght compared to a decent gaming rig and most of the console games are much better in all aspects on pc. But the cost of such a rig excludes a large number gamers. I belive its posible to build a good rig which will run every game out there perfectly (maybe not the likes of crysis with vista OS and DX10 enabled graphic) for around £1000. but its life span will not equal that of a console. So i gotta say that the Xbox 360 (at around £250) is pretty good option for the serious gamer with a cash flow problem. bottom line: is the difference in performance worth the extra £750? bearing in mind that th xbox is likley to give you 5years or so of new titles and the graphics card in the gaming rig would probably last 1-2yrs max at cutting edge. WHAT DO YOU THINK!!!
