Government today gave the go-ahead to a new raft of nuclear power stations. With our increasing reliance on expensive imported energy and commitment to reducing carbon emissions, is nuclear the way forward? Or do you think it is too dangerous and environmentally unsound? Should we concentrate on energy efficiency and renewable sources rather than building new power stations? Have your say.
Gordon Brown should be tied to Selafield and left to rot! >:(
Anyone who thinks Britain should invest in nuclear power should have to know what it feels like to have to have blood tests all the while to check on messed-up bone marrow. Maybe they'd change their minds then.
WHY NOT
Just out of interst does anybody know how much U235 there is in the world and how long it would last if we did use nuclear power on a large scale? I only ask as all questions of CO2 / radioactive contamination aside, coal, oil, gas and U235 as fuels will all run out eventualy as there is only so much of them to be mined. If there is enough U235 would last 10,000 years then it might doing. If it would run out in 50 years then its a none starter.
I've ticked No, but really I like to say "Don't Know".
nuclear sounds great little co2 is produced but nuclear gives off waste that is toxic and damages local environment and people living around them, it would take us years and years to get starting making these stations and cost us billions of pounds, if we are to meet our targets set by the goverment to reduce co2 emissions then we wont do it if the goverment head for nuclear, we have already seen the benifits of renewables and the goverment should invest lots of money into renewables eg. wind power and sloar
agree with andy problem is gov are looking at cost perhaps if we use all their hot air for energy we could save on a lot of energy after all they are all a bunch of ****** windbags lining their pockets at our expense
