Is obesity contagious?

A recent study has concluded that obesity may be spreading socially through friends and family. Researchers claim that friends of obese people are 57% more likely to become obese themselves.

What do you think? Is it possible for obesity to spread in this way?

its mostly to do with stupidity and total laziness. neither of them are contagious to my knowledge.
