Is obesity contagious?

A recent study has concluded that obesity may be spreading socially through friends and family. Researchers claim that friends of obese people are 57% more likely to become obese themselves.

What do you think? Is it possible for obesity to spread in this way?

I weigh more now than I did when I was 25-30. I don't think it is contagious. I think what that when we are in social circles of people of various weights on equal measure,we tend to mimic unconsciously their dietary intake. I was borderline anorexic when I didn't have much social interaction, which I didn't due to the abuse I had undergone. Since, being with my husband, Brian, we eat together and we eat more, or less the same thing. He eats pork, which I can't tolerate.
Also, I notice that people of similar sizes tend to dine together. Personally, there could be something in it, but it isn't viral, but more related to social interaction.
