Are we heading towards a global energy crisis?

Are we heading towards a global energy crisis?

At current consumption levels petrol will run out by 2039 and if the industrialisation of China and India continues at the current rate it will run out even faster. Are we heading to a global energy crisis?

Extrapolation can be dangerous, but if we look seriously at the events of the past two decades, then by 2030 we will have no use for petrol or diesel. technology will have overtaken those fuels and the oli barons of whatever origin and those screwing us at present for all they can get will no longer have a hold on us. Where the government will then look for to overtax us is anyone's guess, but at the moment the Oil producers must fear the day when their product is no longer king - until then they will continue to take us for all they can - and we will be stupid enough to let them. It may be a bumpy ride, but it won't last!

I don't believe there is an energy crisis. The world is an oil based economy at present and governments get stupid amounts of money from tax and they still can't afford to run a country. How could they tax us on solar energy or other forms of natural energy. When the natural resources of this planet do run low there will suddenly be a major breakthrough and we'll all be happy. By this time though the world economy would of collapsed. I believe the governments already know how they are going to replace oil but as long as they can keep getting this much money out of us, they won't.

I beleve that all homes and factories need to become self sufficient for power. Either fitting small wind turbines or solar panels, with the government to subsidize the cost. Oil will run out therefore all transport will have to undergo radical change. AJH from London is correct in stating oil derivatives are used in many differant products and alternatives will have to be found. We are consuming our natural resources at an ever increasing rate, THEY WILL NOT LAST FOREVER. What then ?
