CCTV cameras are failing to have an effect on crime, despite the huge amount that the UK has invested in them, a Met chief has claimed. Det Ch Insp Neville claims that criminals aren't afraid of the cameras. We have the most CCTV cameras in the world but is the cost of becoming a surveillance society worth it?
is there one in the chief superintendants office for when he is getting paid off by the crack dealer gang leaders?? no, i thought not! or when he is down the masonic hall passing it on in a brown envelope to the chief constable, who gives a bit to the tory mp's, who share some out to the tory councillors, who shove a bit to their crony henchmen and so on??
Its all well and good having plenty of cameras, but what do they do with the information they collect. There is no national data base for the photos of villians they detect. Local police dont seem to want to know. If they do - it usually takes forever before anything gets done - so whats the point.
Hidden ones do, but crimes still happen near the visible ones. People see where it/they are pointing and commit the offence out of view, or simply wear a hooded top.
The fat pervy controllers should spend more time zooming in on criminals instead of drunken tarts.
How many tens of thousands of pounds,do those ridiculous camera vans cost, there seems to be plenty in cash strapped surrey, always moaning they havent got enough money,I doubt if they catch many criminals as they are only used during the day, when we all know criminals are most active at night, perhaps ol, Bill should stop wasting money on these useless high tech toys
Our company had high quality Pan and Tilt camera units fitted, we got a clear shot of a criminal entering and leaving a premise on site, told the police we knew who the culprit was but we didn`t reveal his name, we held on to the tape for a whole year and no action was taken by the police, we thought it was a total waste of good money (we paid £12 grand for the cameras) so we dismantled them and disposed of them.
It has saved us a small fortune by not having to waste time and money on compulsary licences and courses, new tapes, data filing systems, and a whole host of crap the government burdens us with.
