Are CCTV cameras a waste of money?

Are CCTV cameras a waste of money?

CCTV cameras are failing to have an effect on crime, despite the huge amount that the UK has invested in them, a Met chief has claimed. Det Ch Insp Neville claims that criminals aren't afraid of the cameras. We have the most CCTV cameras in the world but is the cost of becoming a surveillance society worth it?

we have all heard of selective deafness, well this is selective filming, they will only show and use what they want to.i work in a place where the only place you cannot be filmed is on the loo.if you are honest you forget the cctv is even on and just do your job.the shop where i work has been held up at knife point, while i was working, they had masks,so were never caught even though they were on camera...

if all the money that as been wasted on the cameras was spent on putting the police back on our streets we would all be safer with less crime, cameras will not stop me being attacked by scum they may in certain circumstances help to convict but that is no good to me if i am dead

CCTv does help reduce crime and convict criminals, its what is done with the evidence and the leniency of the law that fails the system, and lets not forget they are used as public protection as well.
