CCTV cameras are failing to have an effect on crime, despite the huge amount that the UK has invested in them, a Met chief has claimed. Det Ch Insp Neville claims that criminals aren't afraid of the cameras. We have the most CCTV cameras in the world but is the cost of becoming a surveillance society worth it?

with out looking at the other 80 or so pages, i cant say if someone else has made this point, but, there are more cctv cameras in the uk then anywhere else in europe. and they haven't made much differance on crime as regards to the rest of europe
No i don't think they are a waste of money as i found out to my sons cost.
Him and a couple of friends were in the wrong place at the wrong time, when police were looking for 3 men who had done a burglary, they turned the corner saw 3 men and arrested them. when questioned they then told them what they were doing and where they were at that time which was backed up by a cctv camara proving they had nothing to do with the crime. I dread to think what may have happened had they not had them.
so keep up the good work with them thats what i say, it's not all negative news with those cctv's.
Had someone attempt to steal my car, caught them on cctv, police came and identified the two people involved of the footae, one week later got a letter of police stating that they were unable to identify the persons responsible, so what is the use of having camera's
