Is a target to cut carbon emissions by 60% by 2050 enough?

Is a target to cut carbon emissions by 60% by 2050 enough?

The proposed Climate Change Bill is the first of its kind in any country and according to Environment Secretary David Miliband, Britain is "leading by example".

Much of the Bill focuses on domestic buildings which account for 25% of UK emissions as opposed to aviation which only accounts for 5%.

What do you think of the Bill? Does it go far enough? Should we provide annual rather than five-year targets?

If the governments really wanted to cut global warming they would make targets that show much faster results like cutting carbon emissions by 20% in the next 5 years.

So why can't we thrust heat sensitive rods into our planet extracting a natural heat source from the planets core.

The human population of the earth is growing by just over 1bn a year and increasing expinentialy and about 25% of them will require a car. ALL of them will require food, heat, homes, furniture, jobs, water, gas, electricity, money, transport the list goes on! You can NEVER decrease human carbon emissions only slow the increase.

A more pressing concern should be how the hell we feed these people!
Mabe we can use all that spare farm land we have in teletubby land!

AJH :After reading your last post I had a look at your suggested IPPC site and still remain a sceptic. Firstly they still claim that human activity is "LIKELY" to be causing global warming, which to me translates as not being certain. Secondly I work in a high tech environment every day using thermometers, calibrated to high standards as a legal requirement.I can assure you that if you move a thermometer from one end of a test bath to the other you will see differences in temperature of more than 0.5 of a degree celsius.this makes me very suspicious of any temperature measurements taken more than forty or fifty years ago,as shown on the IPPC. chart.I am not a climate change expert, but there again I don,t think you have a P.H.D. in climatology either. This is a facility for people to air their own views,so please don't pour scorn on other views just because they don't agree with yours.
