Does the universe have a purpose?

Are we cogs in a vast machine that performs some specific function? Is the universe the result of a random sequence of events or part of a grand scheme? What do YOU think?

We are part of a grand scheme. Like a universal experiment to see how long it is until we screw everything up. Then the all seeing eye will freeze us again and we can start over, later. If it thinks we can survive this he will send the big meteor to bash our heads in, possibly. If all else fails he could unlease the 3 foot high razor toothed chickens...
