A Panorama investigation has highlighted potential risks from wireless (Wi-Fi) networks. The programme found some classrooms had radio frequency radiation levels three times those of a mobile phone mast. While mobile masts are not permitted to be sited near schools, 70% of secondaries and 50% of primaries use wireless networks.
The levels are still 600 times below the Government's safety limits and the official line says there are no risks of adverse health effects. However, some scientists on the Panorama programme linked similar radiation levels with an increase in cases of cancer, short-term memory loss and lower concentration capacity.
Do you think it is time the Government held a proper investigation? Are you happy about your children being exposed to the radiation in schools? Is it time to unplug the Wi-Fi transmitter in your home? Have your say.
Life is so full of risks. It is best to enjoy life - forget about everyday risks.
Hate to be a bit nerdy but radiation comes in 3 forms, Alpha and Beta particles and Gamma rays. wifi uses radio, you know the same as TV's and well radios. Last time I checked no killer TV's about so I.m sleeping easy tonight, wifi still in place.
Near my home, a large microwave transmitter has been in operation for over fifty years. It is very close to two schools, a fire station, and ASDA supermarket and an awful lot of housing. What we do NOT have is is a cancer cluster. I rest my case.
In our area a study was done.It concluded it is safe and would not replace wi fi with anything else.Only time will tell if right or wrong. My opinion is it will be ok.My microwave is more hazzordous than that, and most homes have/use one
Nigel from Kettering worries about media scare mongering (quite rightly) then falls into his own trap ranting against aircraft. Go and tour China and India and see polution. As for Mary, your compter will radiate less than your TV, less than your mobile phone and certainly less than your microwave. Dont worry it will be OK!
