Are we doing enough to prevent endangered species from becoming extinct?

According to a team of researchers, the Yangtze River Dolphin in China has recently become extinct - a victim of rapid industrialisation. All over the world many other species are under threat often as a result of over-hunting or the destruction of their natural habitats. Are governments around the world doing enough to prevent endangered species from becoming extinct? If not, what should they be doing?

When numbers get low that's when we should do something, not when the numbers get to the "critical" list, providing the locals aren't eating them, isn't their responsibility that their own indiginous animals survive? Oh yes,the answers no to not doing enough.
