Festive greetings to one and all!
As you’ve probably worked out, it’s that time of year where we all wonder how we’ll manage through the season of giving.
Thanks for all your questions - I hope I've been able to answer most of them sufficiently.
Next time I'll be answering your queries on setting up your home entertainment systems.
All the best,
LJ x

My ntl email account is driving me crazy. It won't let me access my emails, as it doesn't recognize the password, which I'm sure is right. I can get my password emailed to me, appaerently, but only if I know what my password is to access my emails! Also, when I try to set up another email account (I've got 4), I get a message 'Parameter Error
Unable to create mailbox, returned InvalidCosDomain'.
Any ideas?
LJ says:
Hi Mark, this sounds like you need to speak to a human being –
If you want to get this sorted, ask the person on the phone to set up your email accounts – as this is partly to do with Virginmedia and NTL merging everything together, you can try asking for the calls to the premium rate line to be refunded if it’s a Virgin Media problem.

Hi L J,problem finding website for Virgin "talk online to a technical expert"It probably has a really simple button to push But not on any page I can find.Ta
LJ says:
Hi John,
Unfortunately there is no such button, which is why you can't find it... however, Virgin Media's help pages are here:
http://www.virginmedia.com/help/
...and I believe you can speak to a technical expert on the phone, although bear in mind this would be a premium rate telephone call. You might want to look at the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) first. Good luck.

Hi i want to buy anew digital tv.can i get freeview with this or do i have to make sure freeview is already installed
LJ says:
Hi Carole,
Freeview is the ‘brand name’ of the new way of receiving TV signals – instead of analogue, we’re going digital in the UK. This means that when you buy your new digital telly, just check that it’s ready to receive freeview (some televisions have a “DVB” logo on them), go ahead and stick your aerial in the back of your new tv when you get it home before you turn it on for the first time, then follow the instructions to tune it in – it should be quite straightforward., as long as you have a decent reception.
Before going digital, you can check if you can receive Freeview in your area by going to
http://www.freeview.co.uk
...and typing in your postcode.

i have pc virgin media broadband and want to have internet on my laptop. bought wireless router from currys for cable net. can`t get it to work. shop won`t refund as i have opened the box.
LJ says:
Hi Les,
Generally, shops refund or replace components if they are faulty, regardless of whether the box is opened- but only within the first 30 days of purchase. Can you get internet on your laptop away from your house? If so, then your router could be faulty, or not configured correctly – contact the people who make your router and they may be able to help you.
If you can’t connect to the internet anywhere with a wireless connection, you may need to look at your laptop’s settings. I’d do all of this before contacting tech support – here is a link to Virgin’s help site that might be useful.

Why did the installer leave a cable wire trailing from my Tv set in the lounge accross the room to the computer in the dining room??? I have to lift it up to hoover, I am frightened I will trip and fall seeing im 66 years old. Can anyone tell me if they had the same problem
LJ says:
Dear Dora,
Clearly this sounds like a health and safety issue, and I'm sorry to hear that this happened. If you contact Virgin media and explain the situation, they should send out an engineer to rectify this. Paste this link into your internet browser and give them a call.

I've just become a VIP with Virgin. Why can I only get the basic programme package on the extra set top box installed as part of the VIP package?
LJ says:
Dear Bridget,
Congratulations on your Very Impressive Package. I've just called the VIP people and they tell me that your second set-top box should be showing the same channels as the first box.
The VIP people have also very kindly supplied us with the following phone number, and if you call them, they'll be happy to sort this all out. The number is: 0800 052 0459. Make sure to have your account details ready before you give them a ring.

As I have Virgin Media now as my ISP I would like to send a blanket email to everyone on my address book to say I no longer have AOL. How do I do this?
LJ says:
Dear Jeffrey,
The best way to do this (and to make sure that your email is not seen as spam) is to put your new address in the "To" section of your email form, and "Bcc" (Blind Carbon Copy) about 20 people at a time and send them an email from your new email address asking them nicely to replace their address books.
Bcc’ing people means that if some ‘genius’ hits “reply all”, no-one but you will receive a reply. It also means you are being respectful of everyone’s email privacy. Sending in batches of 20 or so also stops some ISPs blocking your message as spam.
Some services like
www.plaxo.com
help you to stay in touch by sending out automated emails to other members, however, I prefer the old-fashioned way above, as it means you can make your message into a more personal mini newsletter about what you’ve been up to!

new television will only store analogue channels
LJ says:
Dear John,
With no make and model I’m a little stumped - I wish I could help more – do you want to store digital channels instead? Can you watch freeview on your telly but not store those channels?
As a stab in the dark, first of all, check if your new TV actually has a freeview box built in – some TVs have a DVB logo, or Freeview, on it. I’ve checked your area and it will switch fully to digital in 2011 and some channels may not yet be available.
Come to think of it, If your telly is really new, I would speak to the people you bought this from – it may be that you can get it replaced or updated if it’s an operating bug.
